University of Sussex - Higher consciousness

四月 22, 2010

The unnerving experience of deja vu is to be examined by a centre for "consciousness science", hailed as the first to apply cross-disciplinary knowledge to the subject. As well as addressing the basic science of consciousness, researchers at the Sackler Centre at the University of Sussex hope to shed light on unusual experiences such as synaesthesia (where usually separate sensory inputs are experienced together), feelings of detachment, plus clinical conditions such as anxiety, amnesia, depression and schizophrenia. The centre has been set up with a grant from the Dr Mortimer and Theresa Sackler Foundation, which funds pioneering neurological research. It is one of five Sackler research centres worldwide, joining those at the universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow in the UK and Columbia and Cornell in the US.
