MPs want to overhaul genetics and embrylogy law
MPs have called for an overhaul of genetics and embrylogy regulations to bring legislative controls up to speed with developments in modern science. The Commons' science and technology committee report, Developments in Human Genetics and Embryology , recommends urgent action to update the 1990 Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act. The committee, chaired by Ian Gibson, said that the act was open to legal challenge in its present form.

Q&A committee on Brown's spending review
Chancellor Gordon Brown is due before the Commons' Treasury select committee today to answer questions on the outcome of his public spending review announced on Monday. Education spending will increase by £12.8 billion between 2003 and 2006 with science spending up by £1.25 billion by 2005-06. There was no announcement of general higher education spending. This will be revealed later in the year. The select committee session is due to begin at 2.15pm in the Wilson Room in Portcullis House.
