Brown promises cash injection for science
Chancellor Gordon Brown pledged a funding boost for science in the new spending review when he last night opened the National e-Science Centre based at Edinburgh University. The centre, to be run jointly with Glasgow University, is a key part of the government’s e-science programme.
£30m earmarked for skills network
The new Sector Skills Council network will receive nearly £30 million in the next financial year (2003-04) – three times the amount invested in the National Training Organisations in their final year, adult skills minister John Healey said.

Writing in the American journal Science, Professor Rees says there is a growing gulf between clinicians and basic scientists.
