A conference on nanotechnology applications for use in crime prevention and detection will take place in London, UK, on 28 and 29 October.
The objective of the meeting is to bring together key stakeholders in crime prevention and detection in order to discuss new technologies and techniques that may dramatically change the way crime management is approached.
Topics to be addressed at the event include:
- person identification / biometrics (sensory devices, DNA testing, profiling techniques);
- authenticity of goods testing (cryptography, tamper-evident features, security marking, sensory testing);
- scale and portability (dipstick technology, lab on a chip, portable systems);
- personal and physical defences (security/anti-graffiti coatings, protective wear, voice recognition systems, biosensors for warfare combat, advanced building materials);
- trading and commerce (encryption technologies, Internet/systems policing, controlled user access, anti-fraud techniques).
The event is being organised by the UK's institute of nanotechnology in association with the Scottish business crime centre, and is also supported by the forensic science service and the Jill Dando institute for crime science.
