(Photograph) - Video-on-demand technology is at the heart of an interactive networked information system to promote Liverpool Hope University College to visitors at the city's Albert Dock. The project is part of the Hope on the Waterfront initiative, giving access to multimedia information on courses and activities via touchscreen terminals.
More than 4,500 students study at Liverpool Hope and the teacher education department is one of the largest in England. The system, designed and installed by Siemens GEC Communication Systems, uses Cambridge-based Telemedia Systems C-Stream NT software to convert a standard PC into a powerful video-on-demand (VOD) server - linked to the multimedia kiosks via an ATM network and at a fraction of the cost of standard VOD systems.
