Much of Sandra Halperin's work in her role as professor of international relations at Royal Holloway, University of London, involves global change and conflict.
She joins just as the university has expanded its international relations department and is redesigning its masters.
"It was enormously attractive to have the opportunity to be part of such changes," she said. The two masters in international relations and democracy, politics and governance, will be reshaped into eight streams with a core course on analytical approaches to politics and international relations.
Professor Halperin will also be co-director of a new Centre for Global and Transnational Politics.
She was previously a reader at Sussex University and held fellowships at New York University and the University of California, Los Angeles.
