Scottish research into primates has found a home in Edinburgh Zoo thanks to £1.6 million from the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council.
Researchers from Abertay, Edinburgh, St Andrews and Stirling universities, who form the Scottish Primate Research Group, will be able to study mixed species of monkeys in a new purpose-built centre at the 91-year-old zoo.
Andrew Whiten, professor of evolutionary and developmental psychology at St Andrews, which led the funding bid, said: "There are benefits all round.
The zoo will get two wonderful new naturalistic primate exhibits and provide all the animal care at which they are expert, while the university researchers can concentrate on ensuring the highest quality science."
