Basic information and contact details for the University of Hartford

institution

The University of Hartford (UHart) is a private, independent university with around 6,500 students, including graduates and undergraduates.
The university grew out of three separate schools: the Hartford Art School, Hillyer College and the Hartt School. The oldest of these, the Hartford Art School, was founded by women in the first public art museum in the United States. The three schools merged in 1957.
More than 100 degrees are available across seven divisions: the College of Arts and Sciences, the Barney School of Business, the College of Education, Nursing and Health Professions, the College of Education, Technology and Architecture, the Hartford Art school, the Hartt School and Hillyer College.
The Hartt School is a comprehensive performing arts conservatory. It is the largest and most varied conservatory in the state of Connecticut, with over 400 music, dance and theatre events each year.
Teaching quality is a priority, with a low student to faculty ratio of 12:1.
Athletic teams at UHart are called Hawks and play in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). Several Hawks have gone on to become famous baseball players.
UHart’s 350-acre campus spans Hartford, West Hartford and Bloomfield, three scenic counties in Connecticut. The Park River winds through the campus and woodlands run along its borders. Despite its sleepy setting, UHart defies expectations of a college town in Connecticut, with a diverse student body and vibrant campus life. As the state’s capital city, Hartford has a wealth of attractions and distractions, from parks to pubs.
