An MA in Hollywood studies is to be launched by the University of Nottingham this October. The course, which the university says is the first of its kind in Britain, examines the role of Hollywood in history and everyday life and the institutional, economic and cultural frameworks of global Hollywood. "It is a historical moment when Hollywood ... is no longer based in Los Angeles but is dispersed throughout the world - making it difficult to define what an 'American', 'British' or 'Chinese' film might actually be," said Paul Grainge, from the university's Institute of Film and Television Studies, which will teach the course. "There is a need to take stock, and move beyond the easy cliches governing thoughts about Hollywood."
