Work is beginning on a new £45 million School of Medicine and the Sciences at the University of St Andrews, promoting collaborative research in areas such as cancer, health psychology and infectious disease. It will be one of the first medical schools in the UK to integrate its research facilities fully with other subjects, including physics, biology and psychology. Principal Brian Lang said: "It is now clear that the most significant advances in medical research will come in areas where there is the opportunity for unfettered collaboration between medicine and the sciences."
