A rare 17th-century Shakespeare First Folio that was stolen from Durham University a decade ago has been recovered in the US. The priceless first collection of Shakespeare's plays was published in 1623. It is one of only about 200 to 300 extant. The volume turned up at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington DC ten years after it was stolen, along with seven other valuable books, from Durham's university library. Chris Higgins, vice-chancellor of Durham, said: "Staff and the community felt a huge sense of loss when the books were stolen, so you can imagine my excitement and delight when I received the call from the police to say the First Folio had been found."
