Times Higher Education (THE)’s Europe Universities Summit 2023, entitled Beyond resilience: How European higher education is preparing for the future, will take place from Monday 3 to Wednesday 5 July 2023, at the University of Warsaw.

The focus of this year’s event, in Poland’s capital city, will be on how higher education institutions can play a pivotal role in the recovery, unification and progression of societies across Europe and beyond.

As the world continues to face several major challenges related to the war in Ukraine, economic instability, the climate crisis and the continued aftermath of the largest health crisis in a century, higher education is needed now more than ever. Universities, and the entire higher education sector, has a unique position at the junction of education, research and innovation, in shaping sustainable and resilient economies, and in ensuring Europe remains open to the world and engaged in meaningful collaboration and partnerships.

The summit’s theme will be discussed through three core areas:

  1. Resilience in European higher education - recovery and reform
  2. Partnerships for security and growth
  3. Research excellence - translating the return on investment

This is one of the most prestigious higher education events in Europe, bringing together leading voices from international universities, industry partners, government and civil society organisations.

Wanda Banks, Times Higher Education’s World Summit Series’ Head of Content, said:

“We’re particularly excited about this year’s Europe Universities Summit as it seeks to address how higher education can play a pivotal role in addressing some of the major challenges faced by societies across Europe and beyond.

“Involving leading voices from global universities, as well as the organisations and bodies that support them, the summit will provide a platform for progressive and solution-led conversations related to geopolitical unrest, economic hardship the climate crisis - these conversations are not to be missed.”

Last year THE’s Europe Universities Summit in Barcelona included Spain’s Minister of Universities, Joan Subirats, President of the European University Association, Michael Murphy; Secretary-General of the League of European Research Universities, Kurt Deketelaere and Vice-President of global engagement at King's College London, Funmi Olonisakin.

THE’s host partner, The University of Warsaw, is Poland’s largest university and one of its most prestigious. It employs 3,900 scholars whose scientific research covers 1,400 areas and is a very international university, cooperating with more than 1,000 national and international institutions. Founded in 1816 by a decree issued by the Russian tsar, Alexander I, the university remains in its historical main campus, in the centre of Warsaw. Five Warsaw graduates have won Nobel prizes, including physicist Joseph Rotblat, and former Israeli Prime Minister, Menachem Begin.

More information about the event is available here. Details of speakers and the agenda will be announced in due course.
