关于 Dokuz Eylül University
Set up in 1982, the Dokuz Eylül University (DEÜ or Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi in Turkish) is named after 9th September 1922, the date when Izmir was liberated from the city’s Greek occupation, which was also one of the last events in the Turkish War of Independence.
Some 17 previously established schools, as well as some of Ege University’s faculties became affiliated with DEÜ. It now has 15 faculties, five schools, six vocational schools, five graduate schools and five research institutes.
The Social Sciences Institute and School of Maritime Business and Management, University Presidency and Medical Faculty and Health Sciences Institute have gained national recognition for their education, research and practice.
It was the first university in Turkey to apply the problem-based learning method, which began at the School of Medicine in 1997.
The university’s Institute of Oncology is one of only three specialist oncology centres in Turkey and the only one in the Aegean region. As well as providing facilities for doctorate and post-doctorate students, it also carries out extensive research and many clinical trails.
There are several campuses, İnciraltı, Buca, Buca-Tınaztepe, Hatay, Balçova, Torbalı, Seferihisar, Foça and Urla.
It has academic collaboration projects established with 59 universities from 25 different countries.
Izmir is Turkey’s third largest city and second most main port. Located in the Aegean region, it is an important tourism centre and has a typical Mediterranean climate. Formerly the Greek city of Smyrna, over the years it has been home to Greeks, Armenians, Jews, Levantines and Turks, resulting in a multicultural melting pot – reflected in the architecture and cuisine.
