The Federal University of Espirito Santo (or in Portuguese, Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo or UFES) was founded in 1954 through a bill proposed by Governor Jones dos Santos Neves.

UFES is the largest higher education institution in the Brazilian state of Espirito Santo and is located in the city of Vitoria. It was officially federalised in 1961, while Juscelino Kubitschek was President of Brazil.

Its Latin motto is “docete omnes gentes” meaning “teach all people” in English or “ensinai todas as pessoas” in Portuguese. It has approximately 22,500 students, of whom 20,000 are undergraduates and 2,500 are postgraduates. It offers students the opportunity to choose from 105 undergraduate courses, 58 master degree courses and 26 PhD courses.

It has four campuses: Goiabeiras (home to its administrative headquarters), Maruípe located in the state capital city of Vitória, and one each in the municipalities of Alegre (in southern Espirito Santo) and Sao Mateus (in northern Espirito Santo).

UFES is home to a theatre which is the largest and most modern in the state, as well as a cinema, art galleries, a language centre, libraries, a planetarium, an astronomy observatory, auditoriums and sports centres.

Espirito Santo’s main public health facility, the university hospital Cassiano Antonio Moraes (HUCAM), offers medium and high complexity medical care and is a training base for the university’s medical students. It is committed to offering free education as a public asset, operating on principles of ethics, democracy and transparency and ensuring the interaction and partnership with wider society.

About the role This is an exciting opportunity for a talented individual experienced in the practice and communication of sound statistical principles to join our Faculty. The Faculty supports high quality epidemiological studies and complex clinical trials in nursing, midwifery, palliative care, rehabilitation, technologies, and health services research. You will contribute to new grant applications and advise on studies to completion and publication, including supervision of junior statisticians. You will also contribute to teaching, provide PhD and MSc supervision and contribute to improving statistical skills across the Faculty. You will be associated with the UKCRC-registered King’s Clinical Trials Unit (CTU), working to their quality management system. The King’s CTU has world-leading statistical and trial delivery expertise and provides randomisation services and other management system support. You will be involved in grant applications to a variety of funding streams such as those offered by the National Institute for Health and Care Research and the Medical Research Council (MRC), including pilot/feasibility to definitive trials and fellowships that typically involve trials or epidemiology using big data. There are excellent opportunities to develop, lead and apply novel methods and approaches, in response to complexities in data structures, interventions and outcome measures across the research areas of the Faculty. NMPC researchers collaborate in applications for trials of complex interventions, adaptive designs, cluster randomised trials and outcomes with intercurrent events. Monitoring and tracking of analytics to better understand the EI’s community will also be key.  The Communications and Engagement Officer will also be responsible for delivering/co-delivering a range of engagement events and activities within the Communications & Engagement programme, which can include both curricular and co-curricular work. Collaboration is key to this role as the post-holder will be expected to seek out and nurture partnerships with internal partners at King’s and across the wider entrepreneurial ecosystem. The Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences, University of Helsinki, invites applications for the position of UNIVERSITY TEACHER IN MOLECULAR AND INTEGRATIVE BIOSCIENCES (ESPECIALLY NEUROBIOLOGY) This fixed position from 1.8.2026 (or as agreed) – 31.5.2030 is based in the Department of Molecular and Integrative Biosciences, which is one of the three Departments in the Faculty and located on the Viikki Campus. Tasks Teaching and teaching-related tasks account for the majority (70-90%)of the annual working time. The primary focus will be on contributing to the curriculum of the Master’s Programme in Neuroscience — an international, multilingual programme that attracts both national and international students. In addition, the selected candidate will be involved in bachelor level teaching and teaching-related tasks. Teaching responsibilities will include fundamental topics in neurobiology from molecular and cellular to systems level, as well as quantitative analysis methods and examples of modern approaches in fundamental research. The university teacher selected for the position will be the responsible teacher on selected courses, teach on courses coordinated by other teachers and to assist professors and university lecturers with course preparation and management. Key duties also include student guidance, bachelor’s and master’s thesis supervision and evaluation as well as participation in collaboration with the faculty’s degree programmes. The candidate is encouraged to integrate into Department’s research activities. We expect the candidate to be able to work collaboratively, contributing to joint teaching initiatives and to foster a learning environment that encourages critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving. Selection criteria According to the University of Helsinki's administrative regulations, applicants must have a relevant higher education degree and teaching experience. When assessing applicants’ qualifications, emphasis will be placed on proficiency and teaching experience in molecular and integrative biosciences, in particular that of relevance for the curriculum of the Master’s Programme in Neuroscience, demonstrated pedagogical competence, supervision of bachelor and master’s theses, and ability to advance the use of interactive and student-centered education methods. Expertise in blended learning approaches that incorporate modern digital tools are regarded as an asset. The successful candidate should have good knowledge of cutting-edge approaches for investigating neurobiological systems at different levels of organization and to be committed to excellence in research-based undergraduate education. Additional merits include a doctoral degree and other research experience, particularly in the field of neurobiology.  Teaching skills The overall teaching skills of a university teacher must be at least at a good level. Applicants' teaching skills will be assessed in relation to the curriculum of the Master’s Programme in Neuroscience in the field of neurobiology. Language skills The university requires that those holding teaching and research positions must be proficient in the language of instruction, which in this case is English. As a core faculty member, the successful candidate will be involved in teaching, accreditation, and programmatic decision-making for the graduate programs in ABA.About the Position The Department of Educational Specialties is seeking a full-time, career- track (non-tenure) faculty position beginning Fall 2026 to coordinate the MEd in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Positive Behavior Support (PBS) Graduate Certificate programs.
