关于 Lakehead University
Lakehead University is a public research university that evolved from the Lakehead Technical Institute and Lakehead College of Arts, Science, and Technology, established in 1946. It gained university status in 1965.
Often known as Lakehead U or LU, it has campuses in Thunder Bay (7,900 students) and Orillia, Ontario, which is 150km from Toronto (1,400 students).
Non-denominational and provincially supported, it offers undergraduate programmes, graduate programmes, as well as a three-year law degree through the Bora Laskin Faculty of Law. Lakehead's Faculty of Busness Administration the only internationally accredited business school in Northern Ontario.
It is also home to the western campus of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine. As a percentage of total student population, Lakehead University has one of the largest indigenous student communities in Canada and offers a number of scholarships and bursaries for Aboriginal, First Nations and Métis students.
The university’s motto is "Per Angusta Ad Augusta", meaning "Through trials to triumph".
The Thunder Bay campus has a gymnasium, weight room, squash court, 50-metre swimming pool, a 200-metre indoor track, soccer field and climbing wall, which is where the Lakehead Thunderwolves varsity teams train. Its mascot is a Thunderwolf.
Lakehead University Student Union, or LUSU, is the nucleus for student-run clubs and activities, which range from student government to multicultural clubs and athletics. LUSU is also responsible for publishing the student newspaper, The Argus, as well as running The Study Coffeehouse and The Outpost Pub.
Notable alumni include Ronald J. Duhamel, Former Member of Parliament, Senator and Jim Foulds, Former Ontario MPP.
