Soka University is a private university in Hachioji, Tokyo, Japan. It opened to undergraduate students in 1971 and the graduate school opened in 1975.

The Soka University of America, is an affiliate university which was founded in 2001 in California. It also offers both graduate and undergraduate degrees. Soka Women's College was established in 1985 and shares a campus with Soka University.

The university has eight faculties which include economics; business administration; law; nursing; science and engineering; liberal arts; letters and education.

The graduate schools cover law; teacher education; law and letters and engineering.

The university facilitates exchanges with more than 200 universities in 61 different countries. Nearly 900 students go abroad every single year.

International students at Soka University come from approximately 52 countries.

The university offers 11 English medium courses and this is set to expand in the future. The courses are aimed at international students as well as Japanese students wishing to learn English. Students have the flexibility to choose courses in both English and Japanese.

The International Affairs Office hosts a number of events for international students throughout the year. The office holds a welcome party for international students in the spring and autumn, a new years party on 1st January for students spending New Years Day in Japan to experience new year's traditions and sightseeing tours for international students.

There are also a number of sports teams that students can get involved with including American football, baseball, football, rugby and handball. As well as this, there are also many other student societies covering a range of interests including photography, Japanese calligraphy, flower arranging, debate, astronomy and many more.
