Founded in 1943 in Manizales, the University of Caldas can trace its roots back to the Instituto Universitario de Caldas set up 30 years earlier.
The university is spread across four campuses in Manizales.
Undergraduates can choose to study from the six main faculties: agricultural sciences, law and social sciences, natural and exact sciences, health sciences, engineering, or arts and humanities.
Postgraduates also have the option to study a master's degree in agricultural production systems, biomedical sciences, chemistry, culture and drugs, design and interactive creation, earth sciences, education, English didactics, family studies and development, fito pathology, gerontology, philosophy, rural societies, social sciences, and veterinary sciences.
Doctoral degrees are also offered include agricultural sciences, biomedical sciences, design and interactive creation, and educational sciences.
Classes are also offered in six regional centres while the "Virtual Campus" offers eight courses including a MOOC which translates as "Coffee : Science, Passion and Perspectives".
