The proposed boycott of Israeli universities is strategically inept and tactically counterproductive. It is a perfect example of ultra-leftism, when a simplistic moral position is adopted to crank up a sense of righteousness regardless of the consequences - in this case to friends, allies and supporters of the Palestinians' just cause, whether within Israel or without.
There is another country under occupation whose situation demands strong protest. It is a country where hundreds of thousands have died, where there is a multiplicity of barriers and checkpoints set up by invading armies, where foreign military bases have been established for the long term and where citizens move in fear if at all.
I refer of course to Iraq. Is a boycott of the occupying powers now on the cards?
