Some may fear the prospect of the National Health Service University poaching pre-registration nursing education ("Health academics voice fears over NHSU takeover", THES , October 17), others may not.
University departments of nursing have been swamped by huge intakes of subdegree-level students and accompanying hordes of research-inactive staff. If all were absorbed into a more vocational environment, university departments would be re-enabled to pursue graduate education for nurses and research that underpins it.
