Liverpool is not the UK's leading university in complexity research ("World will not bow to our control", THES , January 16) and is, in some respects, the new kid on the block.
In 2001, the Open University established its Complexity Science Research Centre following an international conference titled "Working with New Understandings of Nature, Chaos Theory, Complexity Science and Evolution". Along with Cranfield University, we also played a major role in setting up the UK Complexity Society, which is open to academics and non-academics alike.
