My question to the universities listed in The Times Higher as wanting to retain their university visitor ("17 deal blow to ombudsman", April 16), is: Have you not read the papers? Research student cases are taking years to resolve, and there have been questions about whether the system contravenes the Human Rights Act 1998. How can anybody consider the amateur knowledge of the visitor over the professional expertise of the Office of the Independent Adjudicator?
The National Postgraduate Committee will campaign until this medieval system is gone.
