Roger Ottewill and Mary Brown suggest that teachers should continue to teach after retirement ("Life coaching", Letters, 22 November).Their responses to my letter ("Qualified expectations", 8 November) in fact reflect my experience of university employment. After retiring from a full-time post in 1999, I continued to teach on a part-time degree programme for mature students for the next 12 years.
