QAA queries 2

November 7, 2003

Adamantios Diamantopoulos seems to be labouring under a misapprehension (Letters, THES , October 31). The academic judgements in QAA reports are formed by panels of senior academics, whose names are published with the reports. They are recruited by public advertisement and university nomination and the qualifications required are high.

We in Cambridge have reason to be glad of their professional astuteness. The audit team that came to us saw straight through the general board's smokescreen of recently created assurances of good practice and spotted the fact that staff and students had not been informed of many of the new quality assurance procedures at all.
