Trevor Stone maintains that there are problems with science only when its data are misused by "others" (Letters, THES , December 19/26). What of the German university scientists who supported Nazi policies and used its victims for their experiments? Or the Soviet and Chinese academics complicit in persecutions more brutal than any inquisitions?
Religious and secular people commit atrocities. Stone should accept that the moral high ground belongs to no one instead of claiming for science an ethical superiority that is unsupported by history.
