Drummond Bone's comments highlight the sector's desire to maintain control of all higher education programmes. Foundation degrees are key to meeting the Government's desire for 50 per cent participation by 18 to 30-year-olds by 2010. Both further and higher education institutions need to work to achieve this.
I do not believe there will be a mass exodus from further education because of the proposals because many institutions value their links with universities. But, universities need to ensure they are more responsive to the needs of the further education community.
