Your report ("Universities offset to 'shirk' their green responsibilities", 13 August) implied that the University of Westminster is taking an easy path out of managing its environmental impact.
It is true that we offer staff who need to fly as part of their work an opportunity to offset the carbon emissions of their flights. But this is only part of a package of measures that also includes infrastructure improvements, reduction of vehicle emissions, improved waste management and delivery of a number of biodiversity schemes. Far from shirking our responsibilities, we take them very seriously.
Geoffrey Petts, Vice-chancellor University of Westminster.
