I see that a new survey of young academics shows that they still see "self-fulfilment" as a key career aim ("Young academics striving to fit in reveal high anxiety", 7 August). This underlines that performance management is not yet the force it should be in higher education, because the correct answer should be "to achieve their goals and targets and thereby raise the bar".
