To satisfy those who attack academic freedom, could I suggest that every university establish a directorate of academic freedom, with an overpaid director who, only after deep thought and wide consultation, will provide a list of the ideas that academic staff are allowed to think about? In this way we would have no problems ostracising, or sacking, anyone whose views are deemed "off-message" or offensive.
