The Leeds Metropolitan University branch of the University and College Union does not have a formal position on graduation ceremonies (Letters, August 4) but nor does it have a position on the many other examples of spending indulgence. What it does have is a position that opposes compulsory redundancies and a widespread concern about spending priorities. Andy Pike correctly reflected the concern felt by Leeds Met's UCU members ("UCU anger at Leeds Met's glitzy graduation", July 28).
