I was very interested to read the criticisms of the research assessment exercise and especially the point that a Nobel prizewinner would not have met most of Imperial College London's performance targets.
I have it on good authority that Albert Einstein would not even have been considered for entry into the RAE because his work on relativity would have counted as "scholarship" rather than "research".
