Paul Newall, economist, former lord mayor and chancellor of the university during centenary year (1993/94) has been appointed pro chancellor and chairman of council, succeeding John Leahy.
The British Council David Drewry, director, science and technology, deputy chief executive of the Natural Environment Research Council and visiting professor at Queen Mary and Westfield College, University of London, will succeed John Hanson as chairman of the council in 1998.
University of Luton Philip Harding, director of finance and information at Harefield Hospital NHS Trust, has been appointed director of finance.
University of Wales Keith Robbins, professor, vice chancellor of the University of Wales Lampeter and, since 1995, senior vice chancellor of the university has been re-elected for a second period of office from September 1998 to August 2001.
University of Stirling Peter Kemp, director of information strategy at Glasgow University, has been appointed director of information services.
The Scottish Office Three new members have been appointed to the Scottish Higher Education Funding Council: Ann Kettle, senior lecturer in medieval history, University of St Andrews; Valerie Maehle, head of the school of health services, Robert Gordon University; Stewart Miller, chairman of the council at Loughborough University.
