Appointments

Crichton College, Dumfries. Rex Taylor, professor of social policy and social work at the University of Glasgow, has been appointed director of the college. Cathy Garner, director of policy initiatives at the Housing Corporation in London, has been appointed director of research and enterprise.

Brian Rix, chairman of Mencap, was installed as chancellor on July 16.

South Devon College

Ian Bentley, executive director of quality at the college, has been appointed acting principal and chief executive from September.

Institute of Education

Toni Griffiths, European development/press officer at the institute, succeeded Michael Barber as dean for new initiatives on July 1.

Frank Hay, professor, vice principal and head of the department of immunology, has been appointed vice principal and school secretary, succeeding Ralph Hill on October 1.
