TIMES SUPPLEMENTS Steven Lucy has been appointed to the newly created position of deputy advertisement director to the Times Supplements. Previously, Mr Lucy was recruitment sales manager of the Daily Telegraph.

UNIVERSITY OF KENT AT CANTERBURY Leslie Johnson, former dean of faculty and head of department at Brunel, has been appointed director for Canterbury business school.

ENGINEERING TRAINING AUTHORITY David Trefgarne (Minister of State for Defence, 1985; Minister of Defence Procurement, 1986; and Minister of Trade, 1989) has been appointed chairman from December 1 1994.

THE TEXTILE INSTITUTE Four world vice presidents have been elected: Stelios Argyros, head of the Preveza Mills Group in Greece and vice president of the Union of Industrial and Employers' Confederation of Europe; Garth Carnaby, director of the Wool Research Organisation of New Zealand; Edward Newton, dean of the school of art and design at Nottingham Trent University; Peter Wetzel, chairman of S R Gent (UK) Ltd and deputy chairman of S R Gent plc.
