Vincent Marks (above) , professor of clinical biochemistry and consultant chemical pathologist, has been appointed dean of medicine in the university's new European Institute of Health and Medical Sciences.

EDGE HILL UNIVERSITY COLLEGE Alan Phillips, formerly responsible for management and business development of facilities and commercial services at the University of Sunderland, has been appointed head of campus services.

UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE

Joy Townsend, research scientist at the Medical Research Council, has been appointed head of the new research centre in primary and community health care.

ROYAL SOCIETY OF EDINBURGH

Lesley Glasser, University of Aberdeen, has been elected to the council. She is on the Links with Young People Committee and the Council of the British Association for the Advancement of Science.
