LIVERPOOL INSTITUTE OF HIGHER EDUCATION

Simon Lee, currently professor of jurisprudence in the faculty of law at Queen's University Belfast, will succeed James Burke, the institute's first Rector, on September 1.

UNIVERSITY OF ESSEX

John Waine, the bishop of Chelmsford, will succeed Terence Becket on August 1, as the chairman of the university council, subject to the university court's approval on March , he will also be appointed pro-chancellor.

UNIVERSITY OF EXETER

Christopher Allison, formerly of the Overseas Development Agency, has been appointed director of the Institute of Population Studies.
