Barbara Stephens, director of operations, West Cumbria Development Agency, has been appointed to the Higher Education Funding Council for England.
Gillian Shephard, Secretary of State for Education, also announced the re-appointment of the following members: Michael Fallon, former minister, DfE.
Robert Telfer, former chairman, BSI Standards.
Colin Campbell, vice chancellor, University of Nottingham.
Kay-Tee Khaw, professor of clinical gerontology, University of Cambridge.
Janet Trotter, director, Cheltenham and Gloucester College of Higher Education.
Other members of HEFCE are: Chairman: Brandon Gough, former chairman, Coopers and Lybrand, Chief executive: Graeme Davies, former chief executive of Universities Funding Council and Polytechnic and Colleges Funding Council.
Brian Follett, vice chancellor, University of Warwick.
David Watson, director, University of Brighton.
Joan Bingley, former group secretary of MAI plc.
Idris Pearce, chairman of the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales.
John Cadogan, director general, Research Councils.
John Strickson, principal, North East Surrey College of Technology.
