Chevalier dans l'Ordre des Palmes Academiques. Jolyon Howarth, professor of French civilisation at the University of Bath, was awarded the order, established by Napoleon in 1808, in recognition of his services to French culture.

Royal Society of Edinburgh

The Keith Medal of the Royal Scottish Society of Arts was awarded to John R. Mallard, emeritus professor of medical physics in the department of bio-medical and bio-engineering, University of Aberdeen, for his role in developing the magnetic resonance imaging scanner.

Association of Chartered Certified Accountants

Bob Parker, professor at the University of Exeter, has been named distinguished academic of the year by ACCA and the British Accounting Association.

Organisation of American Historians

Gareth Davies, politics lecturer at Lancaster University, has been awarded the Ellis W. Hawley Prize.
