University of Derby. John Hinnells, professor of comparative studies and head of department for the study of religions at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, has been appointed visiting professor in religious studies.

Philip Kocienski, professor of chemistry at the University of Southampton, chairman of the SERC CASE Panel (organic) and member of the management committee of Link Assymetric Synthesis Programme (1990-93), has been appointed to the Regius chair of chemistry.

Nick Derbyshire, the architect responsible for the Liverpool Street Station reconstruction and the new international terminal at Ashford, Kent, has been appointed visiting professor in the design department.

Martin Albrow, research professor in the department of sociology and social policy at Roehampton Institute London, is to be Erich Voeglin visiting professor in the social sciences.
