Ian Metcalfe, formerly at Imperial College and a member of the catalysis and catalytic processes programme panel of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, has been appointed to the chair in chemical engineering.
Morwenna Griffiths, former lecturer in social justice and education at the University of Nottingham, professor of education; John Leopold, former senior lecturer at the University of Stirling, professor and head of department, human resource management in the business school; Philip Knott, formerly at the University of Nottingham, profesor of professional legal education.

Adrian Moore, deputy head of the school of applied sciences, has been appointed professor of health sciences.
E. A. (Archie) Markham, poet and writer of short fiction, former senior lecturer in English, editor of the Penguin Book of Caribbean Short Stories, is to be the university's first professor of creative writing.
