UNIVERSITY OF KENT

The following appointments take effect on April 1, 1995: P. A. Clarkson (reader in differential equations at the University of Exeter) has been appointed to the chair of mathematics. P. J. Brown (professor of mathematical statistics, University of Liverpool) appointed to the Pfizer chair in medical statistics.

UNIVERSITY OF LEEDS David Shapiro, formerly senior scientist (special appointment) at the MRC/ESRC social and applied psychology unit and professor associate at the University of Sheffield, took up the chair of clinical psychology on January 1, and will direct a new psychological therapies research centre for the NHS.

UNIVERSITY OF STIRLING Joseph Moran, director of the Scottish Centre for Japanese Studies, has been appointed to a chair in Japanese studies.
