UNIVERSITY OF TEESSIDE. Janet Bainbridge, divisional leader in chemical and biotechnological sciences, professor of biotechnology and food science.

UNIVERSITY OF DERBY

Professorships have been conferred on the following: Paul Bridges, dean of modular studies, university professorship; Greg O'Hare, principal lecturer, professor of geography; Paul Hill, head of division, professor of geology; Nigel Malin, assistant dean, professor of community care.

Visiting professorships have been awarded to: Claire Wallace, head of sociology department, Central European University, Czech Republic; Joseph Watson, reader in electronics, University of Wales.

UNIVERSITY OF BRADFORD

Three externally sponsored chairs, two funded by the Ford Motor Company and the third by the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation, have been awarded to: Les Porter, Ford professor of quality management; Andrew Day, Ford professor of quality engineering; Mohamed Zairi, SABIC professor of best practice management.

COLCHESTER INSTITUTE

Bill Tamblyn, head of the school of music, has been awarded a professorship by the panel of Anglia Polytechnic University.
