UNIVERSITY OF STIRLING James Hedley, retired principal of Inverness College, has been appointed as a professor emeritus in recognition of his positive contribution and valuable assistance with the academic association between the college and the university.

UNIVERSITY OF CAMBRIDGE The following have been elected to professorships: Robert Bennett, professor at London School of Economics, professor of geography; John Trowsdale, principal scientist ICRF Human Immunogenetics Laboratory, London, professor of immunology; Bill Milne, professor of electrical engineering; Bill Dawes, lecturer in the department of engineering, Francis Mond professorship of aeronautical engineering.
