KUBA TEXTILES

The Pitt Rivers Museum, Oxford, is presenting an exhibition of Kuba textiles which will feature early and recent examples, as well as a collection made by Wilfred Thesiger's father when he was British consul from 1907 to 1909 in Azerbaijan. In 1910, the arrival of Kuba textiles in Europe was an important factor in recognition of the aesthetic qualities of African art by such artists as Matisse. SIXTH-FORM CONFERENCE

RIGHTS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND INITIATIVES

New College, Oxford has organised a European colloquium on education on April 5-8. Themes include: the role of the state in education, the need for diversity and the relationship between education and ecology. TALKING ABOUT BELIEF

The Oral History and Religion Society at the University of the West of England, Bristol has organised a conference on April 21-23. ALTERNATIVE FUTURES

A conference on "Alternative Futures and Popular Protests" has been organised to explore the interaction between popular movements and the ideas that animate their leaders and supporters which contribute to shaping their fates.
