Job web option to milk round

March 10, 1995

In a high-technology alternative to the traditional "milk-round", Coventry University is showcasing its students' skills on the World Wide Web.

According to careers guidance officer David Bennett, the Web site will help employers searching for skills which would be hard to locate by conventional means, writes Tony Durham.

"What we are trying to do is set up something that anyone can use provided they have got Internet access," he said.

An advantage of using the Internet to match students to jobs is that the service works year-round. This will be increasingly important with modularised courses.

The flow of information is not all from the university to the employers. By logging usage of the service, the university will be able to learn more about what employers want.
