Aberdeen University's court and the governors of the neighbouring Robert Gordon University have agreed to explore the option of merger. They are to undertake a risk analysis over the next year.
Bill Stevely, principal of RGU, said it was an exciting opportunity. He and Steve Logan, Aberdeen's provost of medicine and medical sciences, pledged full consultation with staff, students and other interested bodies.
