ABERDEEN University, which is planning a major fund raising campaign next year, has already attracted Pounds 8.5 million in gifts, benefactions and pledges over the past year. Duncan Rice, Aberdeen's principal, said: "We can be a perfectly decent university on the basis of government funding, but what will make the difference between decency and world distinction is outside funding. I have very high long-term hopes for the partnership between universities and business."
