A new research institute for visual computing has been set up to strengthen research partnerships between computer science departments at Welsh universities. Visual computing includes the production of computer imagery for science and entertainment, as well as computer analysis of information in images and video. Jane Hutt, the Education Minister for Wales, said the new Welsh Assembly Government Institute of Visual Computing was part of a wider programme to create Welsh national research centres.
