A MEETING of the Aberystwyth branch of the Association of University Teachers has passed a motion of no confidence in the university's staff management strategy.
It follows recent moves to axe up to 25 staff from the departments of biology and geology. The union motion calls on senior management to "work with staff rather than against them, and to follow the constitutional and agreed university procedures". The union is calling on senior management to reaffirm a policy of no compulsory redundancies and to include staff in strategic planning decisions. If the university fails to do this, the union says it will ballot members on local industrial action and possible greylisting. The university refused to comment.
