The Commission meets in Brussels on the morning of 16 June and will discuss:
- Justice and Home Affairs: Commissioner Vitorino will present for discussion a Communication on simplifying the exchange of information and intelligence between the law enforcement authorities of the Member States;
- Research and Development: a Communication entitled 'Science and technology, the key to Europe's future - guidelines for future European Union policy to support research' will be discussed (Busquin);
- External Relations: a Communication entitled 'An EU-India Strategic Partnership' will be adopted. The document "identifies the challenges, opportunities and expectations for international, economic and development policies between the EU and India, and suggests areas for future strategic co-operation and a streamlining of the institutional architecture" (Patten).
Other points include adoption of the second progress report on 'Updating and simplifying the Community acquis [the body of EU law]' (Communication, Prodi).
