Applications for higher education are up 1.5 per cent over this time last year, although this increase is accounted for mainly by the growth in overseas students from outside the European Union, according to figures released by the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service. Geography has seen a percentage fall of nearly 20 per cent in applications and social psychology a fall of nearly 15 per cent.
